Organizing your desk is one thing.Organizing everything around it is another.
1. Get a realistic view.
Just how bad is the mess? Is it a garbage kind of a mess or is it a ‘too many cords’ kind of a mess? Decide on what bothers you the most.
2.Make a plan.
The unorganized thing that bothers you the most should be the first thing that you attack. Once you have this under your belt, everything else will seem a bit easier. Make a plan on how you will get this done. Does it need to be organized? Removed from the room? Taken somewhere else?
3.Take a good look at what is left.
Your plan now is to chip away at what remains after you have taken care of the biggest bother. Evaluate what you no longer leave and make a plan on how you will get rid of it.
4.Map out the essentials.
Here is your chance to get organized. Your essentials need to find a storage spot that will house them. You will need to know where and how you will able to locate these items when you need them. Do you need storage boxes, shelves, drawers or anything else to help you organize your belongings? Do your cords need organizing?
5. Plan out the rest.
You may not be able to organize your entire workspace in one try. You may feel that you can be more productive if you do a bit at a time or you need to find a specific storage unit before you can finish. This is the time to make the plan on how you will complete the task and how you will make yourself stick to it.
6.How will you keep it up?
When you are finished organizing your work area, think about what will keep you from having to have to organize it again. Make a plan on what you need to do to keep yourself organized for keeps.
